Awards and Scholarships

Nebraska Juvenile Justice Association Scholarship Award

Each year the Nebraska Juvenile Justice Association provides a $500 scholarship to an outstanding college junior or senior working toward a career in juvenile justice. Information about the scholarship is provided to all Nebraska colleges and universities approximately 3 months prior to the conference.

Applicants are asked to fill out a form describing work experience in the field, volunteer/community service experience, professional growth and development, and career goals. Applications are reviewed and a recipient is selected by the NJJA Board. The scholarship is presented during the annual NJJA conference awards luncheon. Scholarship recipient will meet with the NJJA Board for networking opportunities.

Evelyn E. Labode Service to Youth Award

In 2011, NJJA renamed the Service to Youth Award to honor Evelyn Labode, a past president of NJJA. Evelyn was a passionate advocate for youth and families and a strong supporter of NJJA. This award embodies Evelyn’s passion with NJJA’s goals of recognizing a professional in the field that demonstrates commitment, initiative, and advocates on behalf of the youth and families they serve. Nominations for this award are sought from the field approximately 3 months prior to the annual conference and are reviewed by the NJJA Board. The recipient is honored at the annual NJJA conference awards luncheon.

NJJA Commitment to Excellence in Leadership Award

This award was established in 2011 to recognize executives and managers in the field who have provided exemplary integrity and leadership serving youth, families, and staff. Strong leadership is critical to effective change at the individual, organizational, and systemic level for juvenile justice in Nebraska. Nominations for this award are sought from the field approximately 3 months prior to the annual conference and are reviewed by the NJJA Board. The recipient is honored at the annual NJJA conference awards luncheon.

Spirit of Youth Award

The Spirit of Youth Award aims to celebrate the success of one Nebraska young person under the age of 24 who has utilized the supports and services available to overcome personal obstacles and give back to his or her community after involvement in the juvenile justice system. Nominations may be submitted individually or on behalf of an organization. Applications will be reviewed by the Nebraska Coalition for Juvenile Justice Youth Committee with recipients recognized at the NJJA Conference. The recipient will be nominated by the Nebraska Coalition of Juvenile Justice to be considered for the National Spirit of Youth Award.
